| Except a guest star appearance in Law and Order SVU, Wentworth Miller hasn’t shot anything since the end of Prison Break. He is coming back to theaters in Resident Evil: Afterlife (petit message perso, ils sont vraiment trop cons ces journalistes, genre il n’a rien fait depuis PB mais il sort un film), which is released in France on September 22, there is the trailer), a movie with Milla Jovovich, adapted from the well-known video games. Wentworth chose to honor this project because his character reminds him of Scofield, Prison Break hero. As his famous tattoo, the series that made him famous around the world sticks to him like glue. Meeting with Steve MacQueen greenish grey eyes actor on the set, in Toronto.
You said that - after four years in Prison Break - your new role would be anything but an action role…
WM (laughing): Here we are! Never say never… Actually, I said that when I was playing in Prison Break and then I was dreaming of something completely different. When the series stopped for good, I took several different options into consideration… and, surprisingly enough, all the roles I got were a spitting image of Scofield, guys in prison or on the run, or who were about to go to jail, who has tattoo. Original, isn’t it?
You expected that a little, didn’t you?
Obviously, Hollywood labeled me. When I got Resident Evil script, I cried out “No way!”. There were too many likenesses between Scofield and my character, Chris Redfield.
What persuaded you to do it?
The huge success franchise site (it is the fourth movie). The choice was simple. I could play in five indie movies that nobody would ever see or just in one with a lot of fans. Play again a character like Scofield was also an honor for Prison Break fans who have been faithful to me.
It is a very male role. Did you do body-building?
Of course, but I also followed a training for fights, stunts and guns handling. It is very funny. I like the physical and technical part of the movie business. Even if it is not completely new because I did most of my stunts in Prison Break. Besides, shooting in 3D means another technology and a lot of shots.
Do you regret not having shot for the cinema earlier?
No. For that matter, it is a typical American fault, always asking “What is your next project?” Rather than just enjoying what you are doing. What I was doing in Prison Break took all my attention ten every twelve months and when we took a break, I preferred recharging my batteries to shooting a movie. That is a choice.
